Hey everybody!

This... is a big month. A lot of things that I've been working on for a long time, some of the longest-running projects of my life come to a head over the next month. Let's go.

📗 book release

After years of anticipation, the conclusion to the story ark we started with the first mini-comic in 2015 hits stores on September 6th. Find out what happens to Allison, Samir, Richard, Tina, and the rest of the Evol house gang in a monster of a book longer than anything we've ever done.

That means time is running out to get all the extras we've made to celebrate the book's release. You may not be able to get some or any of these after the 6th.

pre-order options

  1. NEW! Powells Books, the enormous independent bookstore, is offering a version of the paperback signed by Jesse and me.
  2. You can pre-order from any bookstore, and I'll send you a free signed bookplate. (details here)
  3. You can order from BuyOlympia.com and add on the "Feelie Bundle," a  package of extras that I love. It includes an actual floppy disk, flyer, signed bookplate, and access to tons of Allison's secret personal files. This one is my favorite. I love the secrets we've hidden on this disk and the private website that the bundle gives you access to so much. SO much.

For the launch of Incredible Doom Vol. 2 we are doing seven events in September throughout Oregon and California. Jesse and I will be doing readings from the new book, sketching in and signing, discussing the project, and hanging out with folks. I haven't done events in stores like this since I was sixteen. I am so excited. The complete list of dates is below and here.

Come by, hear stories, and talk comics.

🖼 new print

by Mattmatthew

If you were logging into BBSes in the early days of connected computers, like the characters in Incredible Doom, you probably knew about ANSI art.

Internet speeds at the time were usually too slow to download even a tiny image file quickly. So artists would create different shapes using text characters like the ones below.

Sort of like ASCII art, but constructed from a larger set of 256 letters, numbers, and symbols, "ANSI art" became huge in the early days of the net, with different crews of artists even battling each other for bragging rights.

Amazingly, it's still a vibrant scene today, practiced by some fantastic artists like Mattmatthew, who did this gorgeous Incredible Doom print we released this week.

I can't believe how stunning it is.

Printed by the fantastic BuyOlympia here in Portland, Oregon, the print uses an 11-color high-definition ink process on an enhanced matte paper. It's full bleed, with no border, and looks stunning

📼 video series

There's a new installment in our video series about the creation of Incredible Doom. This one is about why the year that it took to plan the publication of a 30-page mini-comic was necessary.

I've been having a blast making these videos, and there's more to come. So make sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel or follow me on Instagram if you don't want to miss them.

Between now and next month's newsletter, we'll have finished what we set out to do six years ago with the launch of Incredible Doom. But that doesn't spell the end of me making comics for you. Not by a long shot.

It might not even be the end of Incredible Doom.

See you here next month ... or at one of the places below before then.
