Hello Robo

Hello Robo

Hello, Robo is a graphic novel set in the summer of 2000, exploring first love and anxiety through the lens of early internet culture.

The Story

The story centers on teenagers navigating the complexities of first love while dealing with anxiety, all against the backdrop of chat rooms, instant messaging, and the unique social dynamics of early online communities.

Like the Incredible Doom series, Hello, Robo examines how young people used digital spaces to explore identity, build connections, and cope with the challenges of adolescence—but also how technology both helped and complicated those experiences.

Origins

Hello, Robo began as part of a proposed third volume of the Incredible Doom series, initially titled Incredible Doom: Eternal September. As the project developed, it became clear the story was too expansive for a single volume. The material was split into two distinct graphic novels: Hello, Robo (set in summer 2000, focusing on first love and anxiety) and Eternal September (set in 1999, exploring shame, truth, and early blogging).

Status

The graphic novel is currently in active development, as of early 2025, approximately 90 pages have been completed, with 60 remaining to finish the project.

Hello, Robo is created by Matt Bogart, Oregon Book Award-nominated author and co-creator of the Incredible Doom series with Jesse Holden, published by Harper Alley
