SCISSORS, OH – PART 5 PATRON PREVIEW

I recently shared three new pages of Scissors, OH on with my patrons on Patreon. I’m pleased with how this story is going.

I’m sharing it just with backers for now, but I met with Barry, who’s working on the other half of this project, and we’ve got a tentative goal of sharing our work publicly, for free, at the end of the summer.

If you can’t wait, head on over to Patreon and see what’s been going on. I’ve been sharing scripts, time laps drawing videos, original PSD files of the pages, as well as reflections on each part of the story as I post it.

Thanks for being interested in these comics. I’m so glad you’re here.

Scissors, OH – Part 4 Patron Preview

I posted three new pages of my upcoming comic Scissors, OH to Patreon if you’re a backer. We’re up to 12 pages now!

This last month was the most successful month I’ve ever had on Patreon, raising over a hundred dollars.

It’s been my lifelong goal to make comics that pay for themselves and this is the most exciting progress towards that goal I’ve had yet.

If you’re not a backer you’ll be able to read all of these pages in a few months when they go online for free. If you feel like supporting an independent comic creator, I would thank you for it, and you’ll be able to read the first twelve pages of this new story right now.

Take a look at my Patreon page for more.

The Chairs’ Hiatus – Guest Post – Michael Oliver

I absolutely love these pages done by guest cartoonist Michael Oliver to support The Chairs’ Hiatus Kickstarter. He makes comics that are right up my alley: quiet, subtle, and heartfelt. I love the way the character is tugging nervously on his tie in the first page.

The Chairs’ Hiatus – Guest Post – Rick Marcks

My thanks to friend Rick Marks of Floating Dock Comics who did these two pages guest about our pals Mary and Nel to support The Chairs’ Hiatus Kickstarter.

I’m excited to say we’re almost to our reaching our next strech goal of getting five more pages of comcis, this time about how Mary and Nel met.

Also, if you’d like to hear me talk about the Kickstarter, being an indipendent cartoonist, and my attitude to Kickstarter streach goals, I had a great time on the “We Talk Comics”poscast doing just that.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s still spreading the word about the Kickstarter. We’ve got 15 more days to go before we’re out of time to make the book better and to add new comics to the rewards.

The Chairs’ Hiatus – Guest Post – Adrian Wallace

This guest post to help support The Chairs’ Hiatus Kickstarter was done by the amazing Adrian Wallace of Jumbo Deluxe. I love his work. His beautiful color work is the reason I decided to do Oh, It’s the End of the World in color. Honestly you hold check them out

When I budgeted the Kickstarter I made sure we were raising enough to make a book that we wouldn’t be ashamed of, but we blew past that goal in just over a week, so where do we go from here?

Let’s see how nice of a book we can make!

There are all kinds of things we could do to make it really cool!  From nice thick paper, or printed endpapers, to a fancy spot UV cover the ways we could improve the book are virtually endless!

If you can help make that happen I’ve got a way to say thank you. If we reach $5,200,  (just 11 more backers), everyone who pledged above the $5 level will get a PDF of a brand new comic! This one will be about everyones favorite missing friend, NEL.  We spend so much of the main book following Mary around that we never get the chance to get to know Nel. If you can help me improve these books I’ll change that.

If that’s something you think you’d like to read, and you’d like to help make even more beautiful books you can back the project here, you can increase your pledge, or you can post about the new goal on a social network. All three help out so much!

Thank you to everyone for spreading the word so far.

Let’s see how gorgeous we can make this thing!

UPDATE: Well, that was fast!

Just a few hours after posting this we reached our first stretch goal! Way to go everybody, I get to make a new comic about Nel!

We can’t let it stop there however, so stay tuned. I’ll have a new goal shortly! (I’m pretty excited about this one.)

The Chairs’ Hiatus – Guest Post – Josh Shalek

My friend Josh Shalek, who does the fantastically funny comic Falling Rock National Park was kind enough to send me this guest post to help support The Chairs’ Hiatus Kickstarter. I love it and I can’t thank him enough!

If you haven’t taking a look at the project, we’re trying to create a beautiful, two color, hardback version of my comic The Chairs’ Hiatus, which you can read online for free . Don’t miss your chance to get all kinds of neat rewards that will only be available to Kickstarter backers.

So that’s the last page of Part 5 of Oh, It’s the End of the World and the last page of this flashback! Wow it feels good to be done with that. I don’t get much time to enjoy the milestone because I’m jumping right into my first ever Kickstarter! I’m so excited I can barely contain myself. I’ve been working like crazy on it for several months and it’s just about ready. I think you are really going to like it, so stay tuned!

Because of the scramble to get everything in line for the Kickstarter I’m going to be taking a break from posting pages for a couple weeks, but I’ll have plenty of other cool stuff to share! I’ll have guest posts, I’ve got lots of behind the scenes work to share with the folks who are backing at $3 and above, I’ve even got an audio interview / discussion about Patreon itself that I’m doing the finishing edits on.

On top of all that I’m going to be putting together the ebook version of Oh, It’s the End of the World Part 5 in the next few weeks. Everyone backing at the $5 level and above gets a copy of all of my ebooks, so if yore backing at that level you’ll get a copy of that, or you can get a copy of it in my store once it’s ready.

Thanks for reading along with this chapter, and special thanks to the folks backing me on Patreon. More is on the way!

(Thanks to Barry and Adrian for their advice on this page.)
